Conventional flame detector sometimes unable to detect the flame flicker due to saturation effect which is called washout. In this state the detector cells maintain high electrical resistance. The continuous background radiation received from the furnace focused on the detector drastically reduces its electrical resistance. This leaves almost no room for the cell to respond to flame flicker modulation. Thus it vote for “flame off” condition to the controller. To limit false alarms caused by hot refractory radiation sources, we propose multi-infrared sensors, which will select specific spectral bands using band-pass filter and being analyzed by advanced mathematical algorithms such as correlations and autocorrelations.
